Evarine Botha running for HMSTC Team 2025Evarine Botha has learnt to love running over the past few years. The 45-year-old teacher from Chingford has competed in several marathons including three in London. Now she will be running and raising money for Herts MS Therapy Centre when she takes part in this year’s London Marathon.

Originally from Harrismith, a small town between Johannesburg and Durban in Free State Province, South Africa, Evarine not only runs for her local club Orion Harriers but has run marathons in Paris, Florence, Venice, Athens, Valencia, Nice and Berlin.

“Paris was my first marathon and I loved the city. Venice was brutal, not helped by a huge flood and the beautiful coastal scenery between Nice and Cannes was stunning,” Evarine explains. “I managed to get three London Marathons places in successive years and also the virtual one during Covid. My first in London was an especially emotional experience and was just as wonderful as I expected.”

But it’s not all running as Evarine also enjoys watching tennis and rugby. “Roger Federer is my favourite tennis player and I was lucky enough to go to the Rugby World  Cup final in Paris in 2023 and see South Africa win!”

When Evarine has a chance she, and husband and fellow teacher Eion, like to travel. “We visit Spain annually and also get to go back to South Africa too. But we also love London!”

The whole Botha family are sports-mad. Eion likes cricket, golf and Formula 1 and son Ewan loves running, table-tennis and football. “Keanu, has autism and loves all modes of transport, the London Underground is his favourite place on earth,” Evarine explains. “He also loves trampolining, swimming and exploring the local forest.”
