Becky’s Ready for a Runaway Success

Everything’s running smoothly for long-distance runner Becky Yates. Becky’s a 44 year-old self-employed holistic, beauty and sports massage therapist from Worthing.

She will be running and raising money for Letchworth-based charity Herts MS Therapy Centre in this year’s London Marathon.

Becky’s certainly prepared well for the 26.2 mile run. In January she competed in the Red Robin Marathon in Horsham. “I felt good and didn’t feel pressured. I ran the first half with a friend and the rest on my own clocking a time of 4 hours, 29 minutes.

“I ran for my dad Robin who passed away in 2020, so it was an emotional experience for me.”

Becky’s also taken part in several trail and half-marathons, including the 2025 Jurassic coast, New Forest Half and this year’s Maverick Sussex Trail Half earlier this year. She’s also run in some on-road half-marathons. “I also run regularly for my club the Worthing Striders.”

As well as her job Becky works one day a week at The Sand Project, an Independent Educational Organisation giving opportunities to 16-25 year olds with special educational needs. This helps them to build confidence, independence and real-world skills through practical learning, enterprise and personalised support.

Becky is also kept busy running for the Worthing Striders, a local club she joined 18 months ago. “I’ve always liked running and a few years ago I did some park runs with my son who was six at the time. He loved it! Competing in these runs made me realise my love of running and that’s when I joined the Striders.” As if all this running isn’t enough, Becky also likes swimming and spending time with her dog, Jaci.

Becky is also an avid traveller. “I’ve seen lots of wildlife in national parks, for instance a family of wolves, bears and eagles. I’ve also been to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park and Niagara Falls. They are all really impressive.”

She thinks Alaska is the best place she’s visited. “It’s so vast. I’ve travelled a lot in the USA: Florida, Miami, New Orleans, New York, New England, California and Canada. I’ve also been to Spain, Italy, France, Cyprus, Tenerife, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Lapland, Japan, Iceland and Sweden.

Who knows, after running the London Marathon Becky might like to add some of the capital’s landmark locations to her list?
