Peter’s Amazing Long Covid Recovery

Peter Noble has defied medical expectations. The Biggleswade-based father and grandfather was hit badly by Covid, spending three months in hospital. During this time he lost three stones in weight and had to learn to walk again. “I was very run down as I’d been caring for my wife full time. Sadly she passed away. Covid got a real grip on me. It’s a horrible disease,” says Peter.

Retired engineer Peter, who is in his early 80s, had a low level of oxygen in his blood and needed constant additional oxygen intake whilst in hospital. This continued upon returning home three months later. His oxygen levels dropped rapidly when walking. He was told that he’d be on extra oxygen for the rest of his life.

Man Taking Oxygen Therapy in LetchworthPeter saw a news item about an athlete who had used Oxygen Therapy in a decompression chamber in Derby. He asked his doctors in the NHS about it. “They had no knowledge of Oxygen Therapy,” explains Peter. “I didn’t want to be on oxygen for the rest of my life and was determined to try to find a solution myself. One of my respiratory nurses found out about Oxygen Therapy at The Herts MS Therapy Centre in Letchworth. I was pleased to see that they welcome anyone with any condition to their Centre.”

In Oxygen Therapy, pure oxygen is breathed through a mask under pressure in a specially constructed chamber. It is very safe with almost no side effects, unlike much medication.

After completing a trial session, Peter took regular oxygen therapy for four weeks.

By the end of four weeks he was able to walk and drive again independently, and no longer needed any additional oxygen. ”I felt better very quickly,” explains Peter. “I was re-tested at two hospitals. The doctors couldn’t understand how I had improved so much, so quickly. It was amazing!

“Oxygen Therapy has done me the power of good. I’m going for walks, swimming and using an exercise bike. I’m getting stronger every day. I’ve sent back the oxygen equipment I had at home except for one small unit, just in case, but I haven’t used it. I was told I’d need constant extra oxygen for life. After my Oxygen Therapy sessions, I haven’t needed it at all.

“I enjoy going to The Herts MS Therapy Centre at Letchworth. The people are welcoming and friendly. I’d like to volunteer there in the future.

“It’s made a world of difference to my life. You don’t realise how pleasant it is just to breathe normally. I’m looking forward to getting out more and going on holiday.”
