Volunteers are essential for all that we do. Herts MS Therapy Centre can help so many more Users because of the time and expertise offered by some 50+ volunteers who are involved on a regular basis. Without their efforts we simply could not help as many people as we do help. Each individual plays a vital part. Maybe you would like to find out how you could be involved?
On an ongoing basis we need volunteers:
– as part of the team that provides Oxygen Therapy (we call them Operators)
– as part of the Admin team
– General office paperwork / filing / copying; Ordering stationery and Supplies;
Regularly print our Welcome Packs; Getting Leaflets into GP Surgeries
– as part of the Reception Team
– as part of our Fundraising team
– Organising / helping at Events
– Collecting outside of supermarkets occasionally
– See some of our other Fundraising actions
– IT Team – Updates to HMSTC website, Facebook and Twitter. PC Support.
– Gym – Assistants to the Physios and Personal Trainers
– PR – Photographer for pictures for website and leaflets
Volunteering – Helping with Oxygen Treatment
Oxygen Chamber Operators commit to a 90 minute session once or twice a week. Operating and monitoring the chamber providing Users with High dosage Oxygen treatment. Full training is given.
Why not come in and watch a session to find out more. We run both day time and evening sessions Monday to Saturday.
A word from one of our longest serving volunteers on Oxygen Therapy:
“Being a volunteer operator of the High Dosage Oxygen Chamber means folk with varying degrees of MS and other Neurological problems receive hope and often tangible benefit from the treatment. It is a rewarding occupation and over the last 22 years my wife and I have met many interesting and in spite of their problems, generally very happy people. We believe that such voluntary work is vital and worthwhile. There is a great spirit of comradeship and apart from treatment the social aspect creates a sense of belonging to a special family. To give a few hours per week or however much time one can offer is to guarantee that our Users will continue to have the help they need and which they cannot get elsewhere. It is a very worthy use of your spare time”.
Volunteering as part of our Reception Team
We could not welcome so many visitors without the efficiency and friendliness of our Reception Staff. This team is entirely made up of volunteers. Duties include handling the appointments for therapies, welcoming people as they arrive and making the odd cup of tea for a member who is tired after, say Oxygen Therapy, Physiotherapy or a Massage.
