This week, we held the first of a series of ‘Leading Edge’ events for medical professionals.
‘Self-Management of Neurological Conditions via Exercise Prescription’ attracted a lot of interest, with 34 people attending the event which took place at Novotel, Stevenage.
Medical professionals such as doctors, physiotherapists and occupational therapists and personal trainers were invited to the event, sharing knowledge and raising awareness of Herts MS Therapy Centre and the services we offer. Case studies and examples were used to illustrate the information presented.
We were very fortunate that two well-known and respected people supported us with their time and professional knowledge:
Jane Petty, UK Programme Lead (Physiotherapy) with the MS Society discussed the results of new research published in January this year. The results of the study emphasised the significance of exercise prescription in the management of MS. Jane was involved with this research and gave an excellent insight into how the research was conducted and the resulting recommendations.
Jon Graham, Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist from Physio Function showed how assistive technology together with exercise and physiotherapy can help maximise the quality of life for people with MS, Stroke, Parkinson’s and other long term neurological conditions.
Mark Boscher, CEO of the Centre said “This was a new type of event for us and I am pleased to see it so well supported. We are looking forward to liaising with many of the people we met on the night to see how we can work together locally to help even more people with neurological and age-related conditions.”
The event was summed up by one of our delegates: “Excellent speakers, very interesting information.”
Our next Leading Edge event is planned for October. Everyone who attended this week’s event has shown an interest in the next one. We may need a bigger room!
