A big ‘Thank you’ to Dennis Turner & Phil Newstead who have raised £1.020.89 from their Retirement Collection
| 01/03/2012 As some of you will already know the two amigos, Phil Newstead (right in photo) and Dennis Turner, are making a run for it by retiring at the end of March. Both joined the company in 1979, although Phil has precedence by several months. Dennis graduated from City University in 1974, obtaining a BSc Honours degree in mechanical engineering and an MSc in mechanics and materials in 1979, before joining the Environmental Engineering Department (EED), and has spent much of his career in MBDA oscillating between roles in the Mechanical Technology Department and EED. After spells ‘outside’ with Ling Dynamic Systems and TWI Dennis rejoined MBDA as part of the Mechanical Analysis group in 2000 and became a technical Expert in Dynamics in 2004. On taking early retirement Dennis said ‘I’ve been in paid employment since I was 17 and now feel it is time to have some time to myself!’ Phil’s experience followed a somewhat different route. Originally trained as a toolmaker, he joined BAC Precision Products Group (PPG) as an Experimental Engineer and, after gaining a degree in engineering mechanics and applied mathematics, transferred to the PPG Design Department. After narrowly avoiding being made redundant in the early 1990s, when PPG moved to Plymouth, he finally found his calling in the GW Stress Group, where he eventually ended up as Chief Stress Engineer. Phil now intends to watch more sport especially Crystal Palace, Surrey CCC and the Olympics. “Having started at MBDA in the same year and finishing at MBDA in the same month; we would both like to end our time in MBDA on a positive note,” commented Dennis. So if you would have contributed to Phil’s and Dennis’ leaving presents, they ask you instead to make a contribution to the MS Therapy Centre in Letchworth, by using the link below: http://www.justgiving.com/Dennis-Turner They chose this charity because a colleague and friend has a wife with MS and he works tirelessly fund raising for the Centre. “We do what little we can by supporting the Centre’s quiz night by providing a team and, to add insult to injury, have been occasional winners,” added Phil. “So rather than worrying how we would spend your hard-earned cash in the pub, rest assured it will be going to a much better cause.” |
It’s not too late to support the runners by sponsoring them, please visit their online giving websites:
